Books on Screen

13 June 2018

Waterside Press is proud to announce that Justin Rollin’s book The Lost Boyz: A Dark Side of Graffiti (first published in 2011) has been optioned by No Dog Films who are now working with the author on his life story. This is the same book that has become required reading for students at Birmingham City University and from 2018 at Aberdeen University. Further announcements will be made in due course.

A number of other Waterside titles are currently at various stages of negotiation/discussion for film rights, including a major project for a series based on Satish Sekar’s book The Cardiff Five: Innocent Beyond Any Doubt, the second edition of which was published in 2018.

David Wilson’s Waterside Press book Mary Ann Cotton was used as the basis of ITV’s Dark Angel starring Joanne Froggatt in 2017.

Two books were credited with inspiring the BBC’s acclaimed three series of Garrow’s Law starring Andrew Buchan in the title role of the barrister who changed the course of the English criminal trial (2009-2011). Fighting for Justice: The History and Origins of Adversary Trial by John Hostettler was the initial inspiration, with Sir William Garrow: His Life, Times and Fight for Justice by John Hostettler and Richard Braby providing further material for later series. A further book, Garrow's Law: The BBC Drama Revisited by John Hostettler summarised the depiction on-screen.
